This section of our website aims to provide answers to questions we are sometimes asked by prospective club members. It also updates existing members on changes made in 2025 to use Strava as the main tool for organising club rides.
How to find Club Details on Strava – (on Computer)
The Club ID in Strava is: https://www.strava.com/clubs/173979

Scrolling down the page will find links to the next club event (usually the Tuesday evening or Saturday morning rides)

The riders who have already indicated their intention to join the rides are listed.
To see more details about the ride, click the hyperlink of the ride (in the above case – ‘Tue 18:20 / ROUTE CHANGE – R14a (15 Mile) Tuesday Club Ride’

At this point, clicking the ‘I’m in’ button will notify the club to expect the rider and allow them to make plans for sufficient ride leaders.
The lower part of the screen shows the route and the ‘Print Cue Sheet’ and ‘Export TCX Export GPX’ allow users to download the route to their cycle computer or to print out the route details.
How to find Club Details on Strava – (on Mobile)
Open Strava on your phone (and select the Home page, the icon at the very bottom of the screen).
The following is an example of what might appear on your screen – this is a Strava record of a member’s ride.

At the top left of the screen, just below the network details, is the user’s picture.
In the above, the member has not uploaded a photo or icon, so a default silhouette is shown. Click this button to go to the member’s profile page within Strava.
At the very bottom of that screen is a list of clubs. If you have not already added the club to your favourites, click the magnifying glass at the top of the screen, select ‘Clubs’ (on the right-hand side), type ‘HWBCC’ in the search line, and then select the club when it is displayed.

Joining One of Our Rides (Non-Club Members)
A rider wanting to decide whether our club is right for them will be warmly welcomed to join us for a ride or two.
On Saturdays, we aim to ride 20 miles at a social pace of 12–13 mph, ensuring no one is left behind.
If we have enough riders and ride leaders, a 30-mile route will also be offered.
If you would like to join one of our rides, please email us at info@hwbcc.org or use the Message facility on our Facebook page so that we can expect you and make the introductions.
The Facebook page lists the rides for the month, which can be reviewed and downloaded via Strava (access is available without a Strava subscription).
Riders should also be familiar with our expectations of riders, which are outlined in our Rider and Ride Leader Guidelines: https://hwbcc.org/rider-and-ride-leader-guidelines/.
If you are new to cycling, we also draw your attention to ‘M-check’, which is a quick check over the main areas of the bike before each ride. If you need help with any of these, ride leaders will be more than happy to give advice.
The rides start at St Mark’s School, and all riders should arrive ten minutes before the scheduled start for a rider briefing.
Non-members should introduce themselves to a ride leader or committee member so that we can properly welcome them. We look forward to seeing you.
Joining One of our Rides (Club Members)
Members will be familiar with our schedule of routes, which is usually based on the day of the month and published on both our website and Strava.
The website simply lists the routes (scheduled, gravel, and café rides), while Strava includes additional tools and messaging.
To help the club plan rides with sufficient ride leaders, please use the Strava page: https://www.strava.com/clubs/173979 to check whether the route has been changed (for example, due to known road closures) and also to indicate whether you plan to attend.
Note – this does not commit you to riding, as we understand that circumstances can change. However, if your intentions do change, please update any entries accordingly. A day or so before the ride, Strava will send you a reminder, along with any last-minute updates.
Riders should also be familiar with our expectations of riders, which are outlined in our Rider and Ride Leader Guidelines: https://hwbcc.org/rider-and-ride-leader-guidelines/.
Please aim to arrive at the start ten minutes before the start time to allow for briefings and to split into the different rides.
