General Recommendation: Check your bike before every ride. Your bike’s roadworthiness is your responsibility.

Detailed Bike Check Actions:

  • Saddle:
    • Check it’s secure.
    • Correct Height. It should be in line with your hips.
    • Check the max extension mark.
    • Check that the seat post is clamped and bolted.
  • Gears:
    • Derailleur is clear of spokes.
    • All gears can be selected.
    • Ensure gears do not slip.
  • Chain:
    • Check that the chain remains on the sprockets.
    • No excessive play in the chain.
    • No sign of rust or stiff links.
  • Tyres:
    • Check the condition (not worn or cracked).
    • Check pressure.
  • Brakes:
    • Brake components are tight.
    • No signs of wear or fraying in the cables or hydraulic lines.
    • Brake pads are clear from the rim.
    • No excessive pull required with the levers.
    • Brake levers are easily accessible.
  • Handlebars:
    • No movement or swaying.
    • Aligned with the front fork.
  • Forks & Frame:
    • Check the frame for damage. No cracks or holes.
    • No wrinkling paintwork or rust.
  • Front Wheel:
    • Check that wheel nuts & quick release levers are tight and secure and the wheel sits centralised in the fork.
    • No spokes are missing or loose.
    • Wheel rolls smoothly.
    • Rims running free.
  • Bottom Bracket (Crankset Area):
    • Hold pedal crank arms and check that there is no side-to-side movement.
